Black Angus Filet Mignon

Traveler’s Tavern indeed! On the way home from Charlottesville, VA, which is a five hour drive from my home no matter which route you take, you’re gonna need some sustenance, a stretch, and a restroom. Enter Clarksville, VA and the Cooper’s Landing Inn & Traveler’s Tavern! I use trip advisor a lot when searching for places to stay and eat. It hasn’t failed me yet and this restaurant in particular was no exception!

I Googled best restaurants in Clarksville, VA on TripAdvisor and several were shown. My preference when traveling is to try local, non-chain restaurants as much as possible. I was most intrigued by the Cooper’s Landing Inn so I read the reviews. They come highly recommended. Next up, I check out their menu. There are savory dishes on there with quite a good variety. That was enough for me!

Upon arrival it was very dark. It rained earlier in the day so the roads were wet and it was hard to find their parking. It turns out they were also hosting a wedding, so parking was limited. We had to park at the end of the block and walk. That really wasn’t a big deal.

Once we entered the foyer of the Inn we were greeted immediately. Our server was very pleasant and seated us within a minute or so of entering. The dining rooms are split to the right and left of the entrance. We sat on the right side dining room. The atmosphere was pleasing. Our table for two was in a good location and the dining room was spacious.

The star here, by far, is the food! It was so much better than expected!! I thought, based on other reviews, that the food would be good. What I didn’t expect was for the food to be exceptional!!! I can’t say it enough.

The Inn switched to their fall menu on Friday. I chose the Black Angus Filet Mignon and my friend chose the Praline Chicken. The filet was wrapped in bacon, seasoned and topped with a chive cream cheese. It was served with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. The filet was melt in your mouth tender and cooked to perfection!

The chicken breast was encrusted with a crunchy praline topping and baked in a maple glaze & topped with a pecan Kahlua compote. The chicken was accompanied by a baked apple stuffed with mashed sweet potatoes and green beans.

The meal was so delicious that we joked about ordering the same thing and switching so we could try each other’s meal. It was a great plan, save for being stuffed to death! This is a great restaurant to visit if you are in or around the Clarksville, VA area! You cannot go wrong with the food or the service!
