May was a busy month. It began with the Ribbit: the Exhibit at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, one of my most favorite places to go in NC and ended with two weeks in Italy with Juston. Prior to leaving for Italy we visited my family in PA and met my new nephew for the first time.
Juston was turning 21 in June and to celebrate his impending birthday we were going to Italia. I feel very lucky to have spent that time with him. Not many parents are able to spend two weeks with their adult (in theory) kids.
We did a lot of eating in Italy, so much so I was sure I gained a ton of weight when I got home. I guess the food was offset by the miles and miles of walking we did in every place we visited. I actually lost weight, go figure. My kid is a foodie. I think he might get it from his mama. I always thought Juston would grow up and be a chef one day. When he was younger we would get in the kitchen and cook together and still do when he comes home or if I go visit. He’s not afraid to try different foods and he likes to cook. I still hope he decides this is what he wants to do one day instead of going into the military. He’s my only kid and a mom can hope at least.
There was so much to do and see in Italy and I took a gajillion photos. We had couple bumps along the way, including a hotel that wasn’t even close to where we thought we were going to be in Sorrento, and two days extra in Rome when I only thought it was one. What can I say? I’m a flake sometimes. But none of this ruined our trip. It truly was a trip of a lifetime.
Did I mention that during our trip to Venice we sat next to Jennifer Garner in St. Mark’s Square at the Caffe Florian? Yes, Jennifer Garner and kids, plus her entourage. Juston sat at the table next to her for about 30 minutes while I went to the hotel. I was oblivious but he pointed it out to me, and sure enough, there she was. We didn’t blow up her spot, though, and left her to her vacation.
We were on a mission to try tiramisu in every restaurant in Italy. The best tiramisu either of us have ever eaten was at the Wine Bar Teamo in Venice. It was superb. So creamy, with the lightest lady fingers ever, and dusted with cocoa powder – each bite was heaven. If you go to Venice stop by and see Clara & Stefano, and the boss of the bosses, Honey (the owners pup).
