I was born in rural Bucks County, Pennsylvania, but I’ve lived in North Carolina since 1997. Upon moving here the first word I picked up was y’all, and I knew then I was well on my way to being “southernfied!”
Since I moved here I’ve picked up a southern-Yankee accent and a pound or fifty on my hips. Food here is like nothing you eat back home. Have you ever had sweet tea?!? My goodness, if you are from the north you know what I speak of when I say iced tea…tea that is brewed and served cold, over ice, unsweetened. If you want your tea sweet at a restaurant the server hands you sugar packets to stir into your glass and sweeten as desired. It is nearly impossible to dissolve sugar in cold tea. Imagine my surprise when I was served tea down here! This most de-lish, super sweet, amber goodness swirling over my tongue! I nearly dove into the glass trying to suck the very last drop of tea out of the glass. Instant love. And it is a love that lasts, I am here to tell you.
