Frogs, frogs everywhere! No it’s not Biblical pestilence plaguing Egypt, it’s the new Ribbit the Exhibit art display at Airlie Gardens (my fav!). Ribbit the Exhibit is a collection of over 20 copper frog statues by Wilmington artist Andy Cobb. I first saw Cobb’s work at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden several years ago. I’ve been hooked on frogs since! Whenever I see a frog it makes me think of Cobb’s frogs, and they make me smile. Maybe it’s because he fashions his frogs after ‘Old Toad’ from the book The Wind and the Willows. Or perhaps it’s because his frogs are so people-like in their actions while performing chores, playing music or dancing. His imaginative, whimsical figures have captured my heart. On a side note, I’ll be celebrating my 29-plus-17-years-of-experience birthday this year if you’re looking to get me a lil’ something… <Wink>
Of course these aren’t all of the frogs on display in the exhibit, but a sample. If you’d like to see the rest you’ll have to visit Airlie gardens, a wonderful idea don’t you think?! Without further ado…..enjoy!
